Week 05: February 21

State your research question as clearly, precisely, and concisely as possible.

Then explain how you plan to operationalize your research question. Do not worry too much about practical details (though the plan should be feasible), and focus instead on the conceptual issues, and how to make any abstract or ambiguous concepts clear, concrete and observable.

Some questions to consider in your explanation:

What are the key elements (processes, entities, properties, relations) of the subject you are investigating?

How does it relate to existing knowledge?

How will you characterize key concepts?

Where can you find these concepts in observable phenomena?

What criteria will you use to classify your observations?

How can you measure the relevant phenomena?

What is your hypothesis regarding what you might observe?

What would confirm or disconfirm your hypothesis?

What significance might your data and analysis have?
