Week 12: April 18

Consider any aspect of your project that might be analyzed using close reading, discourse analysis, critical discourse analysis, or conversation analysis.  If you feel that your project is not susceptible to such an analysis, choose any interesting piece of text, such as an op-ed piece or recent political speech, and analyze that.

How can analyzing texts help to inform your research?

Which texts will you examine and why? Which of the textual methods will you use and why?

How do the specific texts you chose generate their meaning? What techniques of metaphor, simile, analogy, allusion, and imagery are employed?

Who is the intended audience of the text, and how does the text construct its audience? What assumptions are made?
